A fitting way to say goodbye to 2008 - we rocked it out! Happy New Year everybody.

My mom visited for Christmas this year, the first Christmas we have not had at my parents' house. I regret that I didn't take a photo of my Dad every day that I saw him. I will never have those opportunities again. My mom hates having her picture taken, as I can see all over her face in this portrait. She will indulge me occasionally but she would hate this picture.

So much snow in Seattle this year. Sooo much. Too much. I hate being cooped up in the house by the cold. Which is why I left Boston (among other reasons). Which is why I left NY (ok, well, it's on the list at least).
Posted May 13th, 2009. My sister said if she saw the 700 post one more time she was going to kill me. So, new posts are coming. I found that I've missed the writing as much or even more than the photographs. I need a place to say something, even if no one's listening.

This photo is the 700th photo in my photo-a-day series. So, yes, since this has been going for a little over two years you can tell that I have missed a few days. But, I also have 700 chosen images from that time (and tens of thousands of other photographs) that I would never have made without the project. I wish you could see me a little more clearly here because I am wearing my moose-pants-pyjamas and snow boots, a little after midnight, in about 8" deep snow.

I went to Spice World with T&M and amused myself outside with Crappy D. I took M's picture through the window and then mouthed "That's never going to come out" to which she responded "I know". But, Crappy D has surprised me yet again by actually taking a very artsy picture of M in the spice market.

Hooray for Crappy D! Tonight we went to our friends' house to play Rock Band, which is quickly becoming a Saturday night habit. We got our first snow storm tonight - very pretty, very exciting.

Been reading lots of Steinbeck this year. America and Americans has been my favorite - mostly written 40 or more years ago. Each essay was insightful and amazingly relevant to our present day - time, politics, and country. I know I owe you all an end-of-the-year book report and I will get to it soon!

Took T to the train station today, which gave me the opportunity to go to this warehousey district south of downtown that has lots of things to photograph. There was so much to see and photograph there but I (most likely unrealistically) don't feel entirely safe there. The cool atmosphere combined with the rush of photographing nervously...gave me a great feeling.

Spent a day going around stocking up on our bulk food supplies. This is a great little hidden gem of a store that probably isn't frequented by very many "regular people" like me and Mr. Grumblehog. We are the only people we know who are buying bread flour in 50 lb. bags and storing it in a giant rubbermaid bin. We also stocked up on 00 pizza flour, arborio rice, cocoa powder, pastry flour, and lots of other goodies to get us through the winter!

Tonight was the first night of our new bowling team - Bowlasaurus Rex. Seattle has a group that puts on low key "intramural" sports for grown adults that involve being terrible at sports and drinking lots of beer. It is the world's least serious bowling league. Our team is Mr. and Mrs. Dragonfire, The SKBK Times, the Peters, and two friends we just met. We lost by a landslide but at least I know I will have something to photograph for the next 6 Thursdays.

So, so, so much snow for Seattle.
Long walk in the snow this morning so I took trusty Crappy D with me. I love the retro feel of this one.
Our first real significant snow started to fall tonight. We were all very giddy and excited! Photo by Crappy D.
Em, at Paseo. I took photos while we waited for our sandwiches and the crew there flirted with us? messed with us? I dunno. We ate in the car because it was cold outside.
We are getting quite accustomed to "group cooking". Here, J is cooking indian food at G&S's place.
Also from that area...
Shot at the house, facing westish.
A bicyclist passed in front of my car at the light. Can you see him?
I live with a very funny guy. I came out this morning, still bleary eyed, and thought I was imagining a note written on a pumpkin...but no, it was there, and it wasn't even to me!
Grumpy Mushroom showing us his fang.
Everyone cooked, everyone came, everyone had a great time (I think!).
He is running the left side of this photograph and I am running the right.
Let the cooking begin! We are hosting our first Thanksgiving and J has ambitious plans.
"I am zo bored wit zee peekture taking..."
Knitting a few very pretty things for Christmas presents...it keeps my hands busy while I watch TV.
Can I pretty please lick that butter off your plate?
Still bowling every Thursday night...at least we're getting out of the house.
Fergus went to the big-time eye doctor today and the doc things all will be fine for our little herpes-face.
To tree or not to tree?
Lovely sunset today. Couldn't decide if I like this or the next one better...so you get both.
Went to Seattle's oldest cemetery today for a shooting trip. I need to make a trip in better light / worse weather.
Tonight I felt like standing in the back yard taking some photographs of the night sky, the stars, the moon, the moving clouds.
He is a very beautiful kitty.
Crazy day today. Nothing went right from start to finish except for a few brief hours that I read Of Mice and Men in a sunny spot in the yard. Snapped this from the car while at a stop light.
Something about this scene just caught my eye and looked like a photo-of-the-day.
Further confirmation that Fergus wouldn't want to do what a cat is supposed to do to a bird once they catch it. He enthusiastically hunts the real ones from behind our front window but this "bird" flew too close and paid a terrible price...
Not advertising much...
There's a lot going on here. The more you look, the more you see.
J was cooking when a little sliver of light hit him just right...
