Leaving Brooklyn
Here are a few photos from before we left Brooklyn. For those that didn't get to see it, this was the apartment filled with boxes! It eventually went all the way to the ceiling, in several rows of boxes.

Hi Everyone! I am starting this journal to help keep in touch with everyone now that we've moved to the West. It should be for everyone; friends, parents, grandparents, colleagues, so I will keep the content applicable to everyone. I have not been so great about emailing or calling since we moved so I hope this gives you a chance, day or night, to catch a glimpse of what we’ve been up to.
I am not really interested in the “blogging” part of this so don’t expect there to be a lot of writing here. I plan to post a few pictures with some words to go along with them. If you want more pictures, you should check out my flickr site:

Feel free to leave comments, too!
Before we leave New York, I wanted to go to a real play on Broadway. I mean a play that's different, just opened, not everyone and their brother has seen, and has big name stars in it. (And hubby's requirement: no singing)
Today, I got my wish! We went to see a beautiful play, A Moon for the Misbegotten.
This is my friend, Mrs. Dragonfire. They have come to NY for a visit and there are only certain people that are good enough friends to come visit while you are moving and have the house filled to the cieling with boxes. Here, she is taunting Mushroom because he is not nearly as fat as her cat George. I like how his eyes are rolled back and his tongue is sticking out like she's squeezing him to death.
This is my first view of my new apartment in Seattle. I am so excited I can't wait!
The apartment search is frustrating. I feel a lot of pressure because I have to find us a great place in less than 4 days. So far it's not going well. I have looked at a bunch of crappy apartments.
First day in Seattle; looking for apartments. It's kind of weird that people invite you into their homes to look around at their things and pass judgement. You can open the closets, turn on the water, peak around corners and it's a little odd.
This is the apartment that I did nottake because it is in a building, and J hates buildings.
Getting ready to move is exhausting! This is what happens when J hijacks the camera. You usually wake up to this as your computer's new desktop.
Packed the very first moving box today! Super exciting! Less than a month to go!
This is the tree that I used to climb as a little (and a not-so-little) girl and it contains all the etchings and carvings I did as a child.
It's much harder to climb trees than I remember it being!! This was the bottom-most carving I could reach but they went up for 20 feet above this one. And I had to sneak out to take this photo so my dad wouldn't be worried about me climbing a tree as a grown woman!
It reads 4-7-1990 M.L. + K.C. = BFri 4 Ever
For a wonderful change of pace, we decided to head out to the beach today. I love to go to the beach in winter when you have the whole place to yourself. It's like my reset button - it just does me so much good to relax, hear silence and nature and waves - have wind and sun and salt and sand on my face and in my hair.
Those are the nearest two people in the far distance. I like this one because I thought the light looked like a ribbon on the edge of the water.
Afterwards, I felt that lovely tired you get from being outdoors all day. It was great!
Back in New York. Only a few more weeks to go here. I don't really do much street photography but I liked this one. And I liked contrasting the modern life with the old-fashioned coloring.
Spent the late afternoon exploring in the woods that I grew up in at my parents' house. It is pretty much just the same as it was 20 years ago and I can remember every twist and bend in the creek.
We explored some old abandoned houses - this one was the best - and I believe this is where one of the family "M's" that I was named after lived. Mom, correct me if I'm wrong!
This was the one-room school house that my Grandfather (my mom's dad) went to in the 1880s. I enjoyed being in the room and staring out the big classroom windows and imagining that he was staring out of those same windows when he was a little boy.
The only thing my Dad wanted me to photograph on this trip was this old shed. It has taken me about 11 months to actually get his photo to him - but here you go Dad!
This was my Grandmother's house. I have so many fond memories of playing in the house and in the yard. It had the best climbing tree ever - a huge Magnolia.
We stopped for lunch at a great place that we always go to when we're in town. It's the restaurant where I got this.
Went for a drive with my parents out to where my mom is from. It's what you would call "the Boondocks" but in a good way. I don't know when I will ever get back there again with the move to Seattle so I wanted to make a special trip.
I got to photograph lots of interesting things today - we explored old abondoned houses that my great-great-grandparents lived in and an old one-room schoolhouse that my grandfather went to in the 1880s.
But, it's just the kind of place where an old hounddog can stand in the road for a photograph.
