Goofiness
When too many photos get taken of us...we tend toward...
Finally, about three more hours later, a rainstorm came through. I like this because each drop contains a miniature version of the building across the street.
So, yeah, this is what we saw of Prague. We also saw the inside of the nearby pharmacy (for much medicine) and the grocery store (for bananas and Czech gatorade).
I shot the large tropical plant in our room being shined on by a skylight. At some point when I was doing this, J awoke just briefly from his haze to ask me what the hell I was doing. He must have been hearing the shutter for some time.
I turned my camera on the next willing and available subject and spent and appaulingly long time taking pictures of my own reflection.
With no way to entertain myself for hours on end (packed light, no books, TV was in Czech, still couldn't leave J), I turned to my trusty friend D70 to give me something to do. Obvious choice: look out the window. After several hours though, there wasn't much more of this building I could shoot.
Here is J, in Prague, sick with "The Hapsburg's Revenge" (whatever happened to the blog where we wrote about all this stuff?). Anyways, he was sick and we were therefore completely stuck in our hotel room. I couldn't leave him and go touring around Prague having a grand old time, could I?
This was one of the first times I brought along my camera to a "just hanging out" situation with friends. I used to be so nervous about being "that person" that was always shooting pictures. Spoons was a pretty good sport about being photographed though...and I guess I eventually got over that fear.
Mmmm...Cocoa Bar...outdoor seating...
Spoons was in town (I don't remember why but Spoons probably will) so we met up and went to sit outside in the lovely garden at Cocoa Bar.
Went home to spend Fourth of July (my favorite holiday) with my parents. I really wanted to take my Dad to see a baseball game so we went to see the Prince William Cannons (that's what they were called when I was little, they are the Potomac Nationals now) at the stadium close to home. I love minor league baseball games and it doesn't get any more American that baseball on Fourth of July weekend. My Dad had a blast at the game and I am so glad I took him. My mom, on the other hand, was hit very hard with a cracking foul ball that broke her wrist and bruised her badly. Like a trooper though, she insisted on staying the rest of the game and we took the offending baseball home with us.
One of the downsides of being the photographer is that you rarely get your own picture taken, and when you do it even more rarely lives up to your standards. This one was a nearly un-salvageable photo of me and Shasta but it's one of the very few we have of us together.
Headed up to Boston to attend Henry's surprise 40th birthday party. Here's a rare picture of Shasta. I have spent so much time with her...time spent photographing, even, but still I don't have that many pictures of her.
Finally, it was time to say goodbye to Camp Yuppie 2005.
On the way home we stopped by where J grew up in Poet's Corners (where all the streets are named for poets, how cute). We took his picture under Tennyson St. to send to our friend Tennyson in Brazil.
I also got on a bicycle for the first time in about 17 years so, of course, I had to get my picture taken. Who know that clip-on pedals and bicycle shorts would be a short 4 years ahead of me?
There was a lovely little lake for swimming (no coincidence I am sure) so of course the Dragonfires were off for a swim while the rest of us spectated.
I guess they looked a little hardcore then, but I didn't really have any idea.
Smokey Joe wanted to make sure his mom was ok, but he couldn't swim as far as she was going so we had to keep him on the shore.
He watched intently though...
The usual cast of characters...Michelle (who will probably hate that I posted this photo)...
Todd with Smokey Joe begging for food...
Mrs. Cyclone, looking delightfully evil over her coffee...
Mr. Cyclone, p.s. I like my bacon well done!
and Smokey Joe (hard to believe, an only dog at that time)
Since we'd never been camping together, I didn't figure this city boy could put up a tent.
But he can!
This was me and Jason's first time camping together and our first time camping with this group too - who we sort of didn't really even know all that well at the time! We have, from left to right, The Cyclones, Michelle's sister Allissa, me, Todd, J, Smokey Joe, and Michelle.
J's the photographer here. It's my 27th birthday (tomorrow). For dinner, we went to Felidia in the city, which I have been dying to try...but it was just sort of "eh". I guess you know you're a fully fledged jaded New Yorker when you can say that.
