Started the seeds for my vegetable garden today. We have been "recycling" the cat food cans for weeks and today I finally put tiny little seeds for lettuce, arugula, tomatoes, and peppers into soil and under a grow lamp in the laundry room. I miss my garden from Brooklyn so much. I used to love coming home from work and going out to water, pull weeds, and do chores as a stress relief. It was amazing how much just getting my hands a little dirty with this very small scale container garden made me feel better today.

I saw this very scruffy and unique looking dog in the street today, waiting calmly outside a bar for his owner. I walked a block or two past and couldn't stop turning around to look at him so I knew I had to go back and photograph him. His name is Odin after the Norse God "associated with wisdom, war, battle, and death, and also magic, poetry, prophecy, victory, and the hunt."

You know what kind of economy we're in when my two big exciting purchases are new trash cans and a new broom from Ikea! I am shooting these tonight because 1) I am completely out of inspiration but because I give other photographers a lot of advice about getting through slumps I feel obligated to practice what I preach and 2) because J and I got in an argument over these trash cans tonight. (I think their cuteness outweighs any potential downsides and the thought of going back to the old cans made me cry, he thinks they are impractical and that outweighs the cuteness.) Also, I recently discovered sweeping (don't ask why it took so long) and am still amazed by how much stuff you can sweep up off the floor every day.

I am learning to sew, have I mentioned that? I made myself a great pair of flannel owl pyjama pants in a surpervised sewing class a couple weeks ago. But today, I spent all day sewing a new pair of pyjamas for J. I had no idea how difficult sewing would be, how time consuming, how meticulous, and how difficult it would be to undo mistakes! So, don't look closely at the pockets or the waistband...
had brunch at a packed local diner. How many pictures of J doing exactly this will I amass in my lifetime? Lots.
Wandered the shoreline in the drizzle taking photographs (I also found a lovely little fabric store)...and...
Headed over to Bainbridge Island today with our two friends who were completing the aptly named "Chilly Hilly" bike race. They were off sweating up the hills in spandex and bright colored jerseys. While they did that...we did our usual...
Took only one shot today and this was it. Me: buying organic potting soil to start my seeds for the garden. Him: buying organic ale, whatever that means.
I have never ridden the monorail and have been wanting to so tonight we accomplished that. The station is right under the space needle...which is next on my list of tourist attractions to visit.
Nothing more exciting today.
I usually don't find the visual chaos that surrounds us (wires, poles, sign, lights, traffic signals) beautiful. But, in this case it provided a very graphic quality that I liked.
Another trip to Big John's. We don't celebrate Valentine's Day but I suppose 10+ pounds of pizza flour is kind of romantic!
I found the tiniest little heart today. And I love the little shadow it made on my ring.
Apparently sometime in the late 70s.
